Joe Crescente is a writer, teacher, and media literacy specialist.

Born and raised in New Jersey, he’s a graduate of The Evergreen State College and holds MA degrees from Indiana University’s Russian and East European Institute and New York University’s Department of Anthropology, as well as an MFA in Creative Writing-Fiction from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst.

Crescente recently completed a novel tentatively titled, Karaoke at the Train Station, for which he’s currently seeking representation. The novel largely takes place in Russia during the early 2000s where a one-time American singing prodigy gets the opportunity for a comeback.

His writing has appeared in Trestle Ties, Kinokultura, ArtMargins, Ab Imperio, the Directory of World Cinema, the St. Petersburg Times, the Moscow Times, Russia Direct, Russia Profile, and supplements to the New York Times and Washington Post. He has translated two book-length manuscripts from Russian and his travel writing has been translated into Italian, Arabic, Portuguese, Korean, Indonesian, Spanish, and French.

He lives in Philadelphia.
